Laine Publishing is very well known throughout the knitting community. Since 2016 they have been publishing books on knitting, food, crafts, and lifestyle, as well as their ever-popular Laine Magazine, that’s published 3 times a year. The patterns included in both their magazines and books are well-loved and include designs from popular knitwear designers as well as some newcomers to the knitwear design community.
If you’re a knitter and are inspired by being in nature, Laine Publishing’s newest release, "Observations: Knits and Essays from the Forest", the debut book from Lotta H. Löthgren, will surely be one book that you’ll want to add to your collection.
Lotta H Löthgren is a knitwear designer, writer, and yarn dyer who lives in a small village in Sweden where she also runs her own yarn shop. She takes her inspiration from nature to create wearable garments that match her way of life.
This book includes nine knitting patterns in total — six garments and three accessories, all of which were inspired by elements from nature, and also includes essays about living close to nature. The garments have been designed to fit up to a 152 cm bust, and the accessories in this book include three different sizes to choose from.
You’ll feel like you’re in the Swedish forest when you flip through this book and while you knit these beautiful nature-inspired designs. Lotta says, “The patterns have been created in a quiet conversation with the land, drawing elements from the natural world and translating them into stitches and fabric.”
"Observations" is currently available for pre-order and will be published on August 25th, 2023. You can pre-order it now on Laine Publishing’s website in English, Finish, or Swedish, and you can find it in many local yarn stores worldwide on its release day.
Check out Ravelry or Laine’s website to get a preview of the patterns in this book, and if you’re interested in learning more about other books from Laine, take a look at our article about Neons and Neutrals, another original book from Laine and Aimée Gille.
As the busy summer season soon comes to an end, this book sounds like a wonderful companion to have as we embrace the slower pace of life that inevitably comes in autumn and winter.
