Going to a yarn festival is so much fun! Everyone should try to attend a yarn festival at least once in their lives. You’ll be surrounded by yarn and inspiration wherever you look; you’ll meet many like-minded people and discover new designs; plus, you may even meet your new fiber bestie(s).

There’s always a lot going on

However, going to a yarn festival can be overwhelming. There are a lot of people and sometimes hundreds of booths selling a variety of items, which can be a lot, and if you're not careful, you'll walk out of there exhausted and having spent more money than you wanted to, possibly purchasing items you later realize you don't actually like after the high of attending the festival has worn off.

So, what can you do to have a great time at a yarn festival, leave with your sanity intact, and have no regrets about your purchases?

Yarn Festival Survival Tips

  • Plan ahead of time. It's really easy to get caught up in the moment, so plan out a few projects you'd like to purchase yarn for and try to keep impulse purchases to a minimum, but also be open because chances are you'll come across a pattern you fall in love with and want to purchase yarn for, and that's perfectly okay.

  • If large crowds make you feel overwhelmed, consider going on a slower day. There will still be lots of people, but not quite as many as there would be on a busier day.

  • Make a budget and stick to it. There's no need to go overboard! You'll simply end up regretting it and potentially bringing home goods you don't even want or need.

  • If you see some yarn or another item that you think you would like but aren't sure about, snap a picture of it, go home, and think about it.

  • Wear something comfortable. Pick an outfit and shoes that you can comfortably walk around in for hours. It’s also good to wear layers because sometimes it can get warm when there are lots of people in one place. And don’t forget to proudly wear something you’ve made!

  • Bring a project with you. You never know how long you’ll have to stand in line; plus, where else do you get to show off your awesome project to so many fellow yarn lovers?

  • Have fun! Yarn festivals are such a blast. Take a break when you need to, don’t forget to stay hydrated, and just have fun!

Hopefully, these suggestions will help you have the greatest time possible at the next yarn festival you visit, and don't forget to check out our website for dates of upcoming yarn festivals and other events taking place across the world.
