“A knitting life – back to Tversted” is the first book in a trilogy that tells the story of Marianne Isager, published at the end of last year. Marianne is a knitwear designer with over 40 years of experience and numerous designs. She also owns the well-known yarn brand Isager, which she runs with her daughter Helga.
Marianne's family is originally from North Jutland and spent their summers at Østerklit in the Tversted Plantage. She has traveled extensively and worked with various NGOs in countries in Latin America, Asia, and Africa.
Marianne graduated at Skolen for Brugskunst in weaving and textile printing, but it was at Skals Håndarbejdsskole where she met her mentor, Åse Lund Jensen. Åse was also Danish, and her design work was greatly inspired by traditional Nordic textiles. She developed new yarns and dyes with subdued colors, more in line with the Danish public. She had a workshop with up to 60 knitters and created many collections of hand-knitted items. Realizing she had other knitters who wanted to knit her creations, she started publishing pattern books. Before Åse’s premature death, she found in Marianne a great successor and handed on the business to her.
In this book, Marianne Isager recounts the first 20 years of her life within the textile industry, specifically the decades of the 70s and 80s. She focuses on her first days as a designer and owner of the Isager yarn company and how she met her mentor.
